Car Antifreeze, Needed Not Only in Winter
Many car owners think that antifreeze is only needed in winter, but this is not the case. Antifreeze is used all year round, and its main functions are to cool the engine, prevent freezing, and resist corrosion and rust. The replacement cycle of antifreeze is about 2-3 years, or according to the mileage marked in the vehicle manual. If the color of the antifreeze becomes dark, turbid, or precipitates appear, it needs to be replaced in time to avoid affecting the cooling effect.
When replacing antifreeze, choose a product with the model matching the vehicle. Do not mix antifreezes of different brands and models, so as to avoid chemical reactions and damage the engine cooling system. When adding antifreeze, pay attention to the liquid level, which should be between the upper and lower scales of the antifreeze pot. Do not add too much or too little. Too much will cause the antifreeze to overflow and corrode engine parts, while too little will fail to fully cool the engine.
In addition, in high temperature summer, if you find that the antifreeze level drops too fast, you need to check whether there is leakage in the cooling system, such as water pipes and water tank interfaces, and repair it in time to avoid engine damage due to overheating. When parking in winter, there is no need to drain the antifreeze. High-quality antifreeze can withstand low temperatures below -30℃ and will not freeze.
