Don’t Just Follow Mileage for Oil Changes
Many car owners think that car engine oil only needs to be changed according to mileage, but this is one-sided. In addition to referring to the mileage marked in the vehicle manual (usually 5,000-10,000 kilometers), the oil change cycle should also be comprehensively judged based on the usage environment and oil type.
If you often drive in congested urban roads with frequent starts and stops, the oil is prone to aging and deterioration, and the change cycle needs to be shortened by 20%-30%; if you drive on highways for a long time with stable working conditions, it can be appropriately extended. In addition, the replacement cycles of mineral oil, semi-synthetic oil and fully synthetic oil are quite different: mineral oil needs to be changed about every 5,000 kilometers, semi-synthetic oil every 7,000-8,000 kilometers, and fully synthetic oil can last up to 10,000-12,000 kilometers.
When changing the oil, be sure to choose a product with the label matching the vehicle, and do not add too much. The oil level should be between the upper and lower scales of the oil dipstick. Too much oil will increase the burden on the engine, while too little will fail to fully lubricate, both of which will damage the engine. At the same time, don’t forget to replace the oil filter to ensure the cleanliness of the oil.
